भारतीय चिकित्‍सा पद्धति एवं होम्‍योपैथी विभाग (भाचिप एवं हो.) की स्‍थापना मार्च, 1995 में की गई थी। नवम्‍बर, 2003 में इसका नाम बदल कर आयुर्वेद, योग व प्राकृतिक चिकित्‍सा, यूनानी, सिद्ध एवं होम्‍योपैथी (आयुष) विभाग रखा गया। ऐसा इसलिए किया गया ताकि आयुर्वेद, योग व प्राकृतिक चिकित्‍सा, यूनानी, सिद्ध एवं होम्‍योपैथी चिकित्‍सा पद्धतियों में शिक्षा और अनुसंधान के विकास पर ध्‍यान सकेंद्रित किया जा सके। विभाग आयुष से संबंधित शैक्षिक मानकों के उन्‍नयन, औषधों के गुणवत्‍ता नियंत्रण एवं मानकीकरण, औषधीय पादपों की उपलब्‍धता में सुधार, भारतीय चिकित्‍सा पद्धतियों की राष्‍ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्‍ट्रीय स्‍तर पर प्रभावकारिता के बारे में अनुसंधान और विकास करने के साथ-साथ उनके बारे में जागरूकता उत्‍पन्‍न करने के लिए निरंतर तत्‍पर है।
